A person allegedly kidnapped 5 schoolchildren from the nationwide capital for trafficking them in Uttar Pradesh, police mentioned on Thursday. Accused Setu Verma (22) has been arrested whereas the youngsters had been rescued and reunited with their households, they mentioned.

On March 18, a railway police group seen 5 kids at school uniform and luggage with a younger man at Narela Railway Station round 6.30 pm. So, they felt suspicious concerning the man’s exercise, a police officer mentioned.

“The group enquired from the youngsters. On seeing this, the individual fled from the spot,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) KPS Malhotra mentioned.

The youngsters advised the police that they had been on their strategy to tuition lessons of their village when Setu Verma coaxed them with wafers and introduced them to the station, he mentioned.

Setu Verma introduced the youngsters to the railway for taking them to his native place in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, the DCP mentioned.

In the course of the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that Setu Verma, who works in a candle-making manufacturing unit in Delhi, kidnapped the youngsters with the intent of promoting them in UP, KPS Malhotra mentioned.

The group checked their notebooks and located the college’s identify and contacted the principal. They knowledgeable the college authorities that the youngsters had been kidnapped, KPS Malhotra mentioned.

An FIR was registered underneath the Indian Penal Code part 363 (kidnapping) on the Sabzi Mandi Railway police station, police mentioned.

Setu Verma was arrested on March 19 and despatched to judicial custody on Thursday, police mentioned.
